There are various arrangements of perforated metal mesh openings, with common types including round, square, oblong, and hexagonal holes. Among these, a 60° staggered perforated pattern is the most popular choice due to its inherent high strength and wide range of open area ratios, while a 45° staggered pattern offers another option.

 

Round holes can also be arranged in a straight line, offering a wide variety of hole sizes and open area ratios, but with relatively lower compressive strength. Square holes provide a higher open area ratio but have lower compressive strength, making them suitable for applications requiring high product visibility. Staggered oblong holes are primarily used for solid screening, while straight oblong holes are mainly used in vibrating screens and filters.

 

Hexagonal holes maximize the open area ratio. Other common hole types include diamond, triangular, perforated, fish-scale, louvered, patterned, irregular, and embossed holes.

 

Open area ratio refers to the ratio of the total area of ​​the mesh openings to the total area of ​​the sheet, expressed as a percentage. Regular hexagonal holes maximize the open area ratio. For example, the opening ratio of a round hole mesh (2mm aperture, 60-degree staggered arrangement, 4mm center distance) is approximately 23%.
